EVA AIR LAUNCHES
DIRECT CHARTER FLIGHTS TO CHINA
TAIPEI, TAIWAN, (16 July, 2008) – EVA Air and its subsidiary UNI
Air launched non-stop charter flights to China this month, marking the
historic opening of links between Taiwan and mainland China.
The two Taiwan-based airlines will operate up to eight return flights
a week from Taipei (Sung Shan Airport), Taoyuan (Taoyuan International
Airport) and Kaohsiung to Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou flying on Fridays,
Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. Flying time between Taipei and Beijing
is approximately four hours and from Taipei to Shanghai approximately
two and a half hours.
The direct charter flights, which started on July 4, 2008, reduce the
overall travelling time between China and Taiwan as before the introduction
of the new routes EVA passengers had to change airlines in either Hong
Kong or Macau.
EVA Air will operate from Taoyuan International Airport using new Airbus
330-200s, fitted with the latest cabins and configured to carry 252 passengers
including 24 in Premium Laurel business class and 228 in Economy.
EVA’s subsidiary, UNI Air, will serve Taipei’s Sung Shan Airport
and Koahsiung International Airport in southern Taiwan using comfortably
equipped MD-90s that carry 152 passengers, seating 12 in Business Class
and 140 in Economy. UNI’s initial flight to Shanghai was the first
international departure from Sung Shan in 30 years.
Reflecting the different tastes enjoyed in regions of mainland China and
Taiwan, EVA and UNI Air have designed special onboard menus serving regional
foods created for each destination, such as Cantonese meals on flights
to mainland China. On trips to Taiwan, passengers can enjoy traditional
Taiwanese gourmet specialties. EVA Air Premium Laurel and UNI Air Business
Class passengers can pre-select meals from 21 days before the departure
to 24 hours before the flight leaves at www.evaair.com
The charter flights are a convenient development for international and
domestic business and leisure travellers who can book both EVA and UNI
flights as onward connections for any of EVA’s regular scheduled
services. Evergreen Club members can also collect air miles with every
new booking.
Passengers can book tickets to Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou online
at www.evaair.com, through their travel agent or by calling EVA reservations
(UK reservations: 020 7390 8300).
