SPECIAL SUMMER
PACKAGES FOR KENYA'S GREAT MIGRATION FROM SANCTUARY LODGES & CAMPS
Olonana, one of Sanctuary Lodges & Camps’ luxury properties
bordering the Masai Mara, is offering special packages this summer to
coincide with Kenya’s Great Migration of Wildebeest. Between 15th
July and 31st August 2008, guests can book four nights for the price of
three at Olonana.
The Great Migration is a fantastic round trip for wildebeest travelling
from the southern Serengeti to the northern edge of the Masai Mara National
Reserve and is probably one of Africa’s greatest wildlife spectacles.
It is estimated that over 2 million animals migrate in this year-round
pattern within Tanzania and Kenya, as they follow the rain and greener
pastures. At this time of year, the grasslands of the Masai Mara in Kenya
are covered by a mass of moving wildebeest as far as the eye can see.
For a chance to see this natural migration, guests can stay at Olonana
situated on the banks of the Mara River in the heart of Africa’s
Big Game country. The luxury camp has 12 spacious permanent tents, each
with two queensize beds, en suite bathroom with shower, and large verandas
with views overlooking the river and the resident hippos. The camp features
its own secluded swimming pool and a riverside dining room and lounge.
Olonana borders the Masai Mara Game Reserve, which is rich with hippos,
elephants, cape buffalos, cheetahs, hyena and giraffes, as well as an
abundance of birdlife.
At Olonana, Sanctuary Lodges & Camps’ professional driver guides
take guests on game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, to observe the Great
Migration.
Aside from excellent game viewing, guests at Olonana will have the opportunity
to experience Kenya’s rich cultural heritage by visiting the Maasai
village which is adjacent to the camp and which Olonana supports.
Other excursions at the lodge include a sunrise hot air balloon ride and
a scenic flight in a classic biplane – both across the impressive
Masai Marai.
Olonana holds a Silver rating from Ecotourism Kenya's Eco-rating scheme
and guests may also visit its wetland project which cleanses wastewater
naturally before returning it to the environment. There is also an opportunity
to be a part of the camp’s conservation efforts through its tree-planting
project where guests purchase and plant an indigenous tree which is then
tagged and guests receive a certificate to recognise their contribution
in helping to curb the deforestation of the Mara.
